Born and raised in the Silicon Valley, I have always been around technology. My father, an electrical engineer and my mother a computer programmer, I initially followed in their footsteps thinking I wanted to be a computer engineer. Somewhere along the way, I pivoted to my creative side using the technology all around me. First, it was in taking apart a camera I found in the closet. Later I would get heavily into photography. I think I just wanted to know how things work so I could fully understand the process. I also used computer programming to animate colored lines on an Apple IIe computer. I loved knowing the code behind such interesting and mathematical patterns. To this day, I observe patterns everywhere and use them as inspiration.

Most recently, I was Head of Design of Global Corporate Communications at eBay where I managed a team of creatives focused on supporting the Executive Leadership Team, Internal Employee Communications and External Global Communications. A Graphic Designer and Photographer at heart, I love creating and being creative in all aspects of my life. For over 30 years I have used my skills in a variety of ways from typesetting ads for a recruitment ad agency to designing manufacturing tools in a custom printing environment as well as creating websites and digital graphics for promotional banners, both animated and static, digital photography and, of course, print design.

In my spare time, I enjoy working on puzzles, long motorcycle rides and hang gliding on the coast of California and beyond.

The name JTSQUIDART began as a playful childhood nickname, “Squid”, but over the years, it evolved into a perfect metaphor for the way I move through the world. I’ve always found the "Squid" moniker strangely apt, representing the many restless tentacles of my creative and personal life. Much like a squid uses every limb to navigate its environment, I find myself reaching out in every direction—whether I’m channeling focus into the precision of painting, drawing, and graphic design, or chasing the rush of movement through motorcycling and hang gliding. Even my photography feels like an extension of that same curiosity, capturing a singular moment from a life defined by varied, reaching interests. JTSQUIDART isn’t just a label; it’s the central point where all these diverging paths—from the studio to the open sky—finally converge into one cohesive identity.

  • Artist

I am fascinated by colors and composition and the magic that happens when it’s out of your control. That’s what pouring acrylic paints is like for me. Even when I select the colors and pour them on the canvas, the results are never the same. Nor are they even that predictable. It’s a good exercise in accepting and leaning into happy mistakes.

  • Photographer

Capturing shots for over 30 years, I enjoy the magic of being in the right spot at the right time. Photography is one of those activities that really hones one’s awareness of their surroundings and I just love that, being in the background or sidelines and observing the beauty of the world around me.
